Transporting frozen goods at -18 °C by road from Greece to Switzerland involves a long journey lasting several days. Alongside reliably maintaining the cold chain, pricing presents a particular challenge.

The Greek freight market is subject to strong seasonal fluctuations. During the peak fruit and vegetable season, demand for transport capacity rises significantly. At the same time, seasonal changes in export volumes to Greece affect the availability of free truck capacity and, consequently, freight rates on this route. For customers with regular but comparatively low transport volumes, such as one shipment per month, this makes reliable budgeting and transport planning more difficult.

Our solution: Through targeted market research and coordination with suitable carriers, we were able to find a long-term transport partner who handles the regular shipments on agreed fixed terms. Alongside pricing, the requirements for frozen transport at -18 °C and reliable handling of the journey over several days were particularly important factors.

Temperature-controlled food transport between Switzerland and Hungary – flexible part-load concepts

Different food consignments may have different temperature requirements. Dual-compartment refrigerated vehicles allow different temperature ranges to be combined within one vehicle, making efficient use of available transport capacity.

Our solution: Together with our transport partners, we have already carried out the first part-load shipments between Switzerland and Hungary using dual-compartment refrigerated vehicles. Different food consignments are transported in two separate temperature zones. Building on these initial shipments, we are working towards establishing regular transport connections on this route.
